The Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) is a public institution under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (WyEST) established under the Act of Parliament No. 13 of 1975 (Revised 2002). Starting in 2009, TIE was made a Non-University Higher Education Institution through registration with the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) with number REG/040. The institution is responsible for translating into practice Government Policies on Education by designing curricula and educational programs that will facilitate the provision of quality education at the Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary and Teacher Education levels. The specific responsibilities of TIE are: Designing, preparing and improving Curricula for Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary and Teacher Education Colleges; Preparing supporting materials for implementing the curriculum and verifying the quality of materials intended for use at the levels under its jurisdiction; Providing training to implementers and managers of the Curriculum; and Conducting research and providing professional advice on issues of curriculum, teaching and learning, and education in general.
